The Top 5 Best Places to Live in Illinois

Neighborhood goals.

Looking to find your ideal neighborhood outside of the city? There’s plenty to choose from, whether you’re looking north or south. Homesnacks put together the list of top ten, but we’ll give you five to check out.

Western Springs
In Western Springs, the population growth has increased by 8% over the last 15 years. With the 4th lowest unemployment rate in Illinois, this suburb is great for commuters to Chicago or nearby suburbs, and is close to historic downtown La Grange.

Deerfield
Super close to Highland Park is Deerfield. As the 33rd safest town in Illinois to live in, it’s no surprise plenty of people settle down here. Plenty of people move to Deerfield for work, too, as there’s many company headquarters here.

Winnetka
Quick commute? Check. Safe neighborhood? Check. Highest median income? Triple check. Living in Winnetka is pricy, but it’s super convenient for commuters who head to Skokie, Evanston, or Chicago.

Northbrook
Another neighborhood popular for settling down, Northbrook has a large school system, with a very low student-to-teacher ratio, meaning students get a more personalized and dedicated education. Additionally, the homes are valued at an average of $519,300.

Wilmette
On the banks of Lake Michigan, Wilmette is one of the most popular neighborhoods in the Chicagoland area to live. With a low unemployment rate (at 4%) and the average home cost of $636,900 (wow) this suburb is a frequent pick.
