How to Have the Perfect Chicago Staycation for Labor Day Weekend

Stay in the Chi for Labor Day!

You don’t necessarily have to leave the city to have a fantastic Labor Day weekend. Fulton Grace has a few ideas for you to be a tourist in your own fabulous city.

Grab dinner on a rooftop.

Make a reservation for Aba, etta, or Celeste for a chill rooftop dinner and drinks. You will definitely enjoy your night out!

Head to the beach.

We don’t mean Oak Street. Set up camp at 63rd Street Beach for incredible, sweeping views, or put down your towel at Montrose Beach.

Check out the zoo.

When was the last time you really explored Lincoln Park Zoo? LP Zoo is always full of people, but a relaxing stroll with the animals can’t hurt.

Indulge in some ice cream.

We sincerely suggest Scooter’s Custard, Pretty Cool Ice Cream, Gordo’s, or the ever-so-famous Original Rainbow Cone.

Do something extra-touristy.

Walk on The Ledge at Skydeck, take a Big Bus Tour, or go on that Chicago Architectural Cruise you always SWEAR you’ll do one day.

Go on a self-guided bookstore tour.

Start with Hyde Park‘s maze-like 57th Street Books, and end with Rogers Park‘s Armadillo’s Pillow for quirky used books and more.

Do a brewery tour.

Goose Island and Half Acre have some pretty incredible brewery tours for a behind-the-scene look on the beer-making process.

Take a coffee tour.

We don’t mean Starbucks. We mean many of Chicago’s locally owned and operated coffee shops, where your morning brew is handled with extra care.

Check out the museums.

Though the bigger museums guaranteed to be packed, we suggest the American Writers Museum or Chicago History Museum for an extra dose of history.
