Celebrating Small Business Week

This year, the celebration of  #SmallBusinessWeek is more important than ever. Although we have outgrown some of our small business “shoes”, we still operate like one. We know the perils of hardship, the importance of relationships, and the strength of community support. At Fulton Grace, we want to continue connecting and supporting our local community and it’s beloved small businesses by highlighting a few of our many, many favorites. We know some of you frequent these shops and we hope that by sharing their Covid-19 business operations, you can continue to patronize and sustain their business.

Over the next few days, we’ll be dedicating Instagram posts to local small businesses and giving away a snack of your choosing from each! To enter, keep an eye out for our posts on our page and see that post for specific entry details.

Antique Taco opened its doors in Wicker Park 8 years ago. They have since opened two more locations and remain women and minority-owned operation with a continual effort to employ minorities and support other minority vendors.

During Cinco de Mayo, they’ve created 3 packages available for pre-order at antiquetaco.com. The taco kits will be served with heating instructions and can be picked up from 12PM-8PM on May 5th. These packages will be available for Curbside Pick Up ONLY at Antique Taco Wicker Park (1360 N Milwaukee Ave) & Antique Taco Bridgeport (1000 W 35th Street). Outside of this event, Antique Taco is ONLY open for pick-up and delivery from their Wicker Park location.

In its early days, Andersonville’s Lost Larson was strictly a daytime spot focused on pastries, coffee, and bread which they bake from grain they mill themselves. Now, Lost Larson offers the best of both worlds: at night the small counter-service space transforms into a restaurant, serving a short dinner menu of well-prepared seasonal food. A brother-sister duo from culinary ranks such as Grace, the two and their team leave no detail unnoticed.

Lost Larson currently offers contactless pick up from 9am-12pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Delivery is available for orders over $100 on weekends with a delivery window between 10am-12pm. They also offer a supportive initiative called Neighborhood Loaves that allows you to buy a loaf of bread for a neighbor in need! When you purchase this loaf, it will be distributed through the Greater Chicago Food Depository to community members in need of bread. When orders for at least 40 Neighbor Loaf orders have been received, Lost Larson’s team of bakers will mix, ferment, shape, bake, and pack sliced sandwich loaves made with locally grown organic grain.

Pretty Cool Ice Cream is the brainchild of veteran pastry chef and author of Hello My Name Is Ice Cream, Dana Cree, and Michael Cuapcial, founder of Bang Bang Pie and Biscuits. With a unique spin on the classic neighborhood scoop spot, they curate artisanal hand-crafted ice cream creations on a stick. Their production facility is attached to the shop – which means they often make fun, novel collaborations or themes into delicious treats within a blink of an eye. Currently, you can find Pretty Cool Ice Cream bars in a slew of local small grocers and shops but they also offer delivery and on-demand pick-up orders!

Chicago’s Northside vegan and vegetarian residents have long heralded the very snack-able savory offerings from Kal’ish. The 100% animal-free Uptown eatery was 20 years in the making for then newlyweds Andy and Gina, who began their culinary journey in 1996. Fast forward to 2016, after a few changes and the birth of their son, the Kalish family began a new project on Wilson Avenue. “It takes somebody with a vision—and enough stupidity to not know when to turn back—to say, ‘I’m gonna make this work.” The diner specializes in great burgers, delicious fries, and super-popular “Crispy Clucker” sandwiches—all of which are vegan. They have a slew of sweet treats and a variety of classic American favorites all animal-free! After a little break, Kalish is now open again for pick up orders and delivery via Caviar + DoorDash.
