Broker Blog: Last Chance to Explore Farmers’ Markets in Chicago’s Northern Suburbs

We’re one month into Autumn, and while it’s still warm enough to sit out on a patio for drinks with friends, or take your dog on a long walk through streets lined with golden leaves– we all know how cold Chicago winters can be. You have a few weeks left to check out these fantastic farmers’ markets in the northern suburbs. Get some fresh flowers to spruce up your living space or grab some seasonal fruits and vegetables for a hearty meal before it’s time to trade in your light sweater for a puffer jacket.

Downtown Evanston Farmers’ Market

When: Saturdays 7:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. until November 6th

Where: Intersection of University Place and Oak Avenue

Evanston, IL 60201

Sipping a warm coffee or eating a delicious pastry as you venture through rows of nearly 60 vendors is a great way to spend your Saturday morning. Organizers advocate for healthy eating by bringing in locally grown food and setting up cooking demonstrations. It’s inclusive too! The market is open from 7:00-7:30 a.m. for seniors and people with a disability.

Wilmette French Market

When: Saturdays 8:00a.m.-1:00 p.m. until October 30th

Where: 722 Green Bay Road

Wilmette IL, 60091

Walking through the streets of Wilmette, you’ll feel a sense of community similar to markets in France. That’s the founding principle behind this unique market– bringing people together to appreciate delicious food and art. Unavailable Saturday mornings? No problem, you can head over to their website for their virtual market and order everything from homemade sauces to gardening kits. A lot of vendors even offer free delivery!

Skokie Farmers’ Market

When: Sundays 7:30a.m.- 12:30 p.m. through November 7th.

Where: 5127 Oakton Street

 Skokie IL, 60077

Expanding on local options, this market brings farmers from all over the Midwest including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Try a vibrant fruit pie or bring your dull knives to get sharpened. There’s so much to look at! Some vendors even pickle their vegetables right before opening, preserving the freshness for months to come.

Morton Grove French Market

Where: 6140 Dempster Street

Similar to Wilmette, this market also has a European flair with organic French pastries and a variety of Parisian jams. Vendors offer your classic fall favorites like caramel apples, pumpkins, and apple cider donuts. You can pick up some tamales for lunch or browse the collections of handmade jewelry, patterned socks, and colorful blouses.
