The Fourth of July, or Independence Day, is arguably America’s favorite holiday. It commemorates when the US gained its independence from Great Britain, so historically, this day is filled with celebrations. One of the most colorful and interesting celebrations of the year—complete with festive foods, music, and dancing—it’s a day to get together with friends, enjoy the summer weather, and have a great time! To help you celebrate, I’ve put together a list of celebrations in the Northshore suburbs.
Evanston, Illinois:
July 4th Morning Games
There are 7 sites that host family-friendly games which all begin at 9:00 a.m. Games are free! See the full list of locations here.
July 4th Fun Run
The run begins and returns to Ackerman Park (McDaniel & Central Street) and Starts at 12:45 pm on July 4th. In total the run is less than 1 mile – registration and packet pickup begin at Noon. Register Here
Skokie, Illinois:
Downtown Parade
Skokie Fourth of July Parade begins at noon on Monday, July 4th. The route starts at Oakton Community College on Lincoln Avenue, proceeds to Oakton Street in Downtown Skokie and concludes at Oakton Park.
3D Fireworks Festival
Starting at 5 p.m., “Skokie’s 3-D Fireworks Festival,” hosted at Niles West High School beings includes good, drinks and live music. The music and activities kick off at 6:20 p.m.
Morton Grove, Illinois:
Morton Grave Days
Morton Grove Days lasts from July 1st – July 4th. The event consists of carnival rides, games, delicious food, a friendly beer garden, a great mix of live entertainment, 4th of July Parade, and a spectacular 4th of July Fireworks Show.

Northbrook, Illinois:
Breakfast at Village Green Park and Liberty Loop 5K Run/Walk
Starting at 7:30 a.m., start the day with Breakfast at Village Green Park and the Park District’s Liberty Loop 5K Run/Walk at Techny Prairie Park & Fields.
Located at Meadowhill Park come to see DJ entertainment and local food vendors at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome. End the day of festivities gazing at the firework display at dusk at Meadowhill Park and Techny Prairie Park & Fields.
