Between stay-at-home orders, a global pandemic, and an economic crisis, it often feels like we can\u2019t catch a break. However, it has driven the majority of us to reconsider our close circles, our time spent with family, and how to strip back to the basics of fun: safe activities we can all enjoy. Whether it\u2019s a trip to a pumpkin patch, drive-in haunted house, or a walk around one of Chicago\u2019s many beautiful neighborhoods, there\u2019s plenty to do in the Windy City (especially while the weather is agreeable). If you\u2019re looking for a quick, family-friendly pick-me-up amidst all the chaos, try one of the following!<\/span><\/p>\n

Visit Evanston<\/b><\/p>\n

What\u2019s in Evanston? Aside from some great restaurants (with outdoor seating) and some good shopping, Evanston is home to <\/span>Northwestern University<\/span><\/a> and the nearby <\/span>Bah\u00e1\u2019i House of Worship<\/span><\/a>. Especially during this time of year, the area\u2019s tree leaves are quickly changing into their fall colors. Enjoy an afternoon walk in the area and enjoy the fall colors, the lake view, Northwestern\u2019s beautiful campus, and all that Evanston has to offer! A trip to Evanston makes for a wholesome and enjoyable afternoon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Visit Lincoln Park Zoo<\/b><\/p>\n

The beautiful fall colors of Lincoln Park and visiting animals you don\u2019t see everyday is a great way to enjoy fall in Chicago. <\/span>Lincoln Park Zoo<\/span><\/a> has free admission, but now requires time reservations to support social distancing! This makes for a great afternoon and doesn\u2019t have to stop with the zoo! Lincoln Park has miles of trails and beautiful fall colors to admire – whether it\u2019s a couple of hours or the whole day, a trip to Lincoln Park and the Zoo is a great and safe way to enjoy the outdoors before it gets too cold!<\/span><\/p>\n

Get Spooked<\/b><\/p>\n

Haunted houses around Chicago may be harder to find this year, but don\u2019t worry! <\/span>Terror in the Timbers<\/span><\/a> in Elgin is just a quick drive outside the city, and even better, you won\u2019t have to leave your car! Visiting Terror in the Timbers will include a scenic drive through the countryside with stops along the way that will showcase some of Chicago\u2019s darker historical moments while getting in a good Halloween scare. The great thing about it: you\u2019re in your car and social distancing!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Check out Green City Market<\/b><\/p>\n

Fall is a great time of the year to get fresh produce from \u201clocal\u201d farmers. <\/span>Green City Market<\/span><\/a> in Lincoln Park is an outdoor farmers market with dozens of stands where farmers from Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana come together to offer fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, and more to us urbanites! The market is completely outdoors, there are capacity limits, and a mask requirement, which gives visitors peace of mind as they shop around. Green City market is open every Saturday from 8a-12p until November 21, check them out!<\/span><\/p>\n

Enjoy a Halloween Movie at the Drive-In<\/b><\/p>\n

Until October 31, the Music Box of Horrors has taken over the Chi-Town Movies Drive-in for late shows Sunday-Thursday, and double-features every Friday and Saturday! If you and your family are scary movie fanatics and miss going to the movie theatre, this one\u2019s for you! Get your spooky movie fix before spooky season is over. No car? No problem.
