Fall is upon us, even though Chicago has had some strange, 70-degree days sprinkled in the last few weeks. Instead of hibernating in your apartment and watching Hocus Pocus or the original Halloween on repeat, we have a few ideas for where you can chill when the weather is a bit chilly.
Visit the city’s wonderful museums.
Whether you’re an art lover or history obsessor, there’s a museum for you. Get the City Pass for ultimate museum jumping, or visit the Adler Planetarium for one of their evening events, titled “Adler After Dark”, for a unique nighttime experience under the stars.
Play ping pong at SPiN.
Need a chill space for some friendly competition? This is the spot. Grab your crew and head over to SPiN for a few hours of stylish fun. Embrace fall’s spooky spirit at their All-Inclusive Halloween Party on Saturday, October 27th.
Go for Korean BBQ.
Feast on some amazing Korean barbecue at Dak or San Soo KBBQ. Dak’s huge wings are to die for, and San Soo’s grill-it-yourself setup is a total blast. Put down the Chipotle and try something new and delightful!
Attend Music Box of Horrors.
October 13th to October 14th, see 13 horror films in 24 hours! This movie madness is only $30 per person ($35 on the day of) and the perfect way to spend an autumn Saturday and Sunday.
Opt for the warm comfort of delicious ramen.
From Blowfish Sushi & Ramen to Ramen-san, there are many drool-inducing options for ramen in Chicago. You can’t go wrong with ramen, so pick one, head on over, and leave feeling warm and fuzzy.
Rid yourself of the cabin fever.
Your inner child is screaming, “When did finding something to do indoors get so hard?” and Whirlyball is the solution. Head on over to Bucktown for bowling, laser tag, or the beloved, much talked about Whirlyball. Like the teacups at Disney, without the stomach ache.
Sip a few rooftop beverages.
Indoor rooftop bars on cooler nights make the city feel much bigger than your couch and a fluffy blanket in your apartment. Have a specialty cocktail at The J. Parker, try to grab a table at the famous Cindy’s, or get ultra-dressy for the rooftop at London House.
Go dancing at Beauty Bar or Scarlet.
Themed dancing nights? You know you want to! Check out the Beauty Bar website or Scarlet’s Facebook for all the info on what jams play on which nights. Keep an eye out for the Harry Potter themed evenings at Scarlet for Butterbeer pitchers. You’re welcome.
Catch a show at one of the city’s many music venues.
Take a glimpse at the show schedules for The Metro, Lincoln Hall, Schuba’s, or Thalia Hall. There’s often big bands coming into town for shows, as well as smaller bands on the rise. Keep an eye out for local artists, too, and get out there to support Chicago music!
Take a class or see a show at the Old Town School of Folk Music.
From Bollywood Dancing and Beatles Acoustic Ensemble to Songs of the Great Songwriters, there’s plenty of options to warm your heart in the cold! Many love Old Town School for the way it brings people together in the community, and after one class, you’ll likely want to attend more.
See a live lit or comedy show.
The Kates, Essay Fiesta, 2nd Story, and Write Club are just a few examples of live comedy and lit shows in Chicago. All are worth a visit, and should definitely be on your list of things to do!
